All Fired Up: Excitement & Anticipation

It’s Friday night and you have exciting plans.  How do you express how you feel?

One of the most basic ways is to say that you are looking forward to your evening.  This phrasal verb means you are enthusiastic, eager, and excited about the future.  We look forward to vacation.  We look forward to the next time we see someone we love.  We look forward to finishing work.

We can ask: What are you looking forward to right now?

When you answer, be sure to use a noun form after the preposition “to.”

I am looking forward to the weekend.

I am looking forward to spending time with you again.

I am looking forward to how much fun we’ll have.

You can also say you’re pumped, fired up, or jazzed about something.

A:  Are you looking forward to your birthday?

B:  Yeah.  I’m really jazzed.  My friends are throwing me a party.

These fans are pumped about their team.  They’re jazzed that their team is playing so well.  They’re fired up about their team’s victory.
