Undergraduate & Graduate School Partnerships

osu

PELA partners with many universities in the U.S. and U.K. to help students enroll in undergraduate and graduate programs.

This partnership means you may be able to enroll in universities with lower TOEFL or IELTS scores. Some of our university partners let you take English and university classes at the same time, so you are building your English skills and working on your degree at the same time!

PELA will work with you to help make the application process easier and understandable.

PELA can guide you, step-by-step, through the application process and submit the application for you to make sure it is complete. We make sure you understand the requirements of entry and help resolve any issues along the way, too!

The universities that work with PELA offer a combination of different options for PELA students to get into a Master's program. These options vary depending on the university and degree, so if you are interested in a particular field of study, contact PELA to find out what we can do to help you!

What kind of options for university entry are there with PELA?

"Conditional Admissions"

Some of the universities above offer conditional admissions to PELA students. Conditional admissions mean that a university or college will lower its TOEFL or IELTS score requirement for PELA students. Conditional admission is a smart and effective way for international students to gain acceptance into a U.S. college or university.

Below are examples of some of the requirements. Typical requirements include:

  • Students must be a current PELA student and complete PELA's highest class level (Level 6) in their English language program with a letter grade of B (3.0 or 80%) or better.
  • Undergraduate Programs: TOEFL as low as 60 or IELTS as low as 5.0
  • Undergraduate Programs: No SAT, GRE or GMAT needed
  • Graduate Programs: TOEFL as low as 65 or IELTS as low as 5.5
  • Graduate Programs: GRE or GMAT usually not required until end of the first year of study

"Pathway Program"

A “Pathway Program” is great for students who are just a little below the normal English Test or GPA requirements for graduate school. In a Graduate Pathway program, for the first 1, 2, or 3 terms of university (6 to 12 months) students take a combination of both English and Graduate-level classes. During this time they earn actual college credit for the Graduate classes they take while also continuing to build their English skills. After 1 to 3 terms, they then transition to take graduate-level classes full-time! Graduate Pathway programs are an excellent way for students who still need just a little extra English but want to start working on their graduate degree as soon as possible.

"Direct Entry"

Direct Entry” enrollment is the the hardest for students to get, but it is the quickest way to begin their graduate program. "Direct Entry" means a student can enroll in a graduate program straight from PELA. The GPA and English test requirements for Direct Entry are higher than for “Graduate Pathways”.

"Academic English"

For students who need a lot more English before starting a graduate program, some universities offer “Academic English” programs. In these programs, students focus all their time improving their English. At the end of the program (if they maintain good grades) they are able to then enter a graduate program at that school!
