"The experience was very positive! In our opinion, the program at PELA was varied and suitable for a holiday program. The mix of lessons, excursions and group dialogues was very good and Giovanna really enjoyed that. She even had the chance to make friends with Japanese colleagues. We would recommend PELA!"

Drop-off & Pick-up Location

All classes are held at the PELA campus at 2007 Lloyd Center, Portland, Oregon 97232. PELA is located on the top floor of the Lloyd Center Mall.

Morning Drop-off Time

Students need to arrive at PELA by 9:00AM each day. Please do not arrive earlier than 8:30AM.

Afternoon Pick-up Time

Student need to be picked up at PELA by 4:00PM each day.

Recommended Items to Bring Each Day

  • small backpack or satchel
  • refillable water bottle
  • sunscreen & lip balm
  • sunglasses
  • light jacket or sweatshirt
  • hat
  • sack lunch
  • (optional) snacks
  • (optional) charging cable for cellphone
  • (optional) spending money (treats, souvenirs, etc.)

Lunches

Please note that PELA does not provide lunch for students. Students will be responsible for bringing or purchasing their own lunch (on some excursions, we will be at locations where food is available for purchase).

Shoes

On many local excursions, students will be walking a lot, either indoors or outdoors. Some outdoor surfaces will be uneven (such as hiking trails), so we recommend they wear sturdy walking shoes or sneakers each day (not sandals or heeled shoes).

Clothing

We recommend students wear pants or shorts suitable for walking outdoors and sitting on the ground. Students may want to bring a light jacket or sweatshirt to wear indoors. The weather in Portland can change dramatically during the day, so plan for both hot and cool weather each day.

Cellphones

If a student brings a cellphone to camp, please make sure it is fully-charged each morning. PELA also recommends bringing a charging cable. PELA cannot guarantee access to charging equipment during camp hours, nor can PELA guarantee time to recharge phones during excursions.
