What an eventful month we had!
We went to a Portland Trailblazers game, the Tulip Festival, celebrated birthdays and so much more! With the weather warming up, Portland is preparing for all of the exciting events happening around town this Summer, and we plan to be part of those events!
The Semi-Intensive English program is perfect for students who are coming to the U.S. for Summer Break and want a short-term program while they are here. With less than 18 hours per week in class, this program allows students to learn English in the morning and then explore the lively city in the afternoon and at night.
This program is for students who have a Tourist Visa (B1/B2) or Visa Waiver (ESTA). Learn more about Semi-Intensive English at PELA!
You Are Welcome Here!
Some students may feel a little bit apprehensive about coming to the U.S. recently. PELA is here to tell all students that no matter where you come from, you are always welcome here. U.S. schools across the country have put together a school-wide video to support the #YouAreWelcomeHere campaign for international students.

April Activities at PELA
Portland Trailblazers vs. Minnesota Timberwolves
PELA students were able to go to the Moda Center to watch the Portland Trailblazers BEAT the Minnesota Timberwolves (105-98) on April 6th. Everyone in attendance that night received a FREE Trailblazers T-shirt! See more pictures by clicking on the photo, above.
PELA Egg Hunt & Spring Party
On Friday, April 14th, PELA students searched the school for hidden eggs full of candy and prizes. Four lucky students found the GOLDEN TICKET in the eggs and received a gift cards to stores in the Lloyd Center. And of course, we had the popular photobooth!
See photos from the party on PELA's Facebook page, as well as the hilarious pictures from the PELA Photo Booth on Twitter.
What is your favorite class at PELA?
"My favorite class is Integrated Skills. We learn about different topics that we can use in our lives here in America, like travel, health, relationships."
- Kana, Japan
This month, our volunteers helped serve beer and wine at Portland's Beer and Wine festival. At this festival, people were able to taste local beers and wines, as well as delicious cheeses and chocolates. This festival happens every year and each year there are more people attending. After they volunteered, PELA students gaines FREE entry to the festival so they could experience it for themselves.
End of Term HAPPY HOUR!
On the last day of each term, PELA hosts a Happy Hour for students. This month we held the event at Aztec Willie's and students had a great time! This is a great event because current students can celebrate the end of the term and new students can join and meet new friends before their first term begins!
The May event will be downtown for the Cinco de Mayo festival
PELA students will create a Mother's Day video
Volunteer Class will return to the Albina Co-Op garden to plant vegetables
