PELA Application Information

PELA welcomes students with all kinds of visas, including F-1 Student visas, F-2 visas, Tourist visas, 90-day visa-waivers (no visas), and permanent residents.

If you are a student entering the US WITH an F-1 Student Visa, please send PELA:

  • The PELA Application Form.
  • An official Bank Statement or Financial Guarantee. Please send by email, fax or regular mail. Our fax number is 503-226-1244. We need this to make your I-20. It should show at least $3500…but more is better for the US Embassy. The bank account can be in your name, in your parent’s name, or a sponsor’s name. The bank can be in your country or in America.
  • A copy of your passport.
  • The $200 I-901 SEVIS fee. The SEVIS fee is NOT a school fee. This fee must be paid to the US Government to get your student visa. You can pay it yourself or we can help you pay it. If you want our help, you can send the SEVIS fee to our school, we will pay it to the US Government and send you a receipt.
  • A $35 Application Fee.

After we receive these 5 things, we can send your I-20 form and your SEVIS receipt to you by mail. Then, you can take your passport, your I-20, your bank statement, and your $200 I-901 SEVIS receipt to the US Embassy to apply for your student visa.Please see our I-20/Embassy Information to find out more about how to get an F-1 student visa.


If you are a student entering the US WITHOUT an F-1 Student Visa, please send PELA:

After we receive these 2 things, your application will be complete.


If you are a student transferring from another school in the U.S., please send PELA:

  • The PELA Application Form.
  • An official Bank Statement or Financial Guarantee. Please send by email, fax or regular mail. Our fax number is 503-226-1244. We need this to make your I-20. It should show at least $3500…but more is better for the US Embassy. The bank account can be in your name, in your parent’s name, or a sponsor’s name. The bank can be in your country or in America.
  • The email or fax number of your old school’s international student office.
  • A $35 Application Fee.

You can pick up your new I-20 in our office or we can mail it to you. If you are transferring from another school in the US, you do not have to pay the SEVIS fee again.


If you are requesting housing placement, please send PELA:

  • The PELA Application & Housing Request Form.
  • A $125 Housing Placement Fee.
  • A $25 Airport Pick-up Fee. This service is required for homestays.
  • A $300 Housing Deposit. This will be part of your first month’s homestay fee. You can pay the remaining amount directly to your homestay when you arrive.

After we receive the above application and housing fees, PELA will begin to arrange your housing. The housing deposit and the airport pick up fee are 100% refundable if you cancel your housing at least 14 days before you arrive. All other fees are not refundable.

Tuition can be paid with any of the following methods:

  • Cash
  • Check
  • Credit card
  • Money order
  • Traveler’s check
  • Wire transfer
  • Online payment

Please send fee payment by regular mail or you can pay with credit card by email over the phone. To pay by wire transfer, please contact the school for bank information.

Tuition payment is due on the day of the placement test and school orientation.
