He joined PELA in 2014.
Why did you become a teacher? "I became a teacher because I like to communicate and collaborate with others."
What experience do you have learning a foreign language or living in a foreign culture? "In total, I have lived three years in Spain and one year in South Korea. During this time, I have learned how to speak Spanish almost fluently. My Korean is a little less impressive, but I learned some while there."
How has your international experience helped your teaching? "It has helped me to understand what it’s like to be immersed in a new culture or to be placed in a situation where I’m not totally comfortable. Knowing this, I can help my students find ways to navigate American culture and Portland."
What do you do when you are away from school? "I like to play sports, especially soccer and beach volleyball. I also do a lot of writing, so I spend a fair amount of time in coffee shops and libraries."
Why do you like Portland? "I like Portland because the people are friendly, the taxes are low, and there’s always something fun to do!"
Why do you recommend our school to students? "Because the teachers who work here care about one thing above all: helping you improve your English!"
